Lanark Cedar is honoured to have joined in a partnership with Scouts Canada in their Scoutrees program. Scoutrees is a national environmental program that involves youth (Beaver, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers) in a meaningful and hands –on conservation project. This program provides an educational and fundraising opportunity for the boys and girls within our local Scouting programs as they plant trees.
On May 1st, 2010 the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers the scouting youth of the Valley Highland Area, which include groups from, Perth, Drummond, Port Elmsley, Carleton Place, Beckwith, Almonte, Smith Falls and Merrickville planted another 2,500 tree seedlings on the municipal property adjacent to the Drummond/North Elmsley landfill site. This planting helped to create a buffer zone (beautification) along the Code Road and will also contribute to carbon-neutral initiatives/efforts.
After the tree planting the scouting youth arrived at Lanark Cedar for a well earned BBQ. The BBQ is also part of a fundraising effort that is organized by the Valley Highland (Scouts Canada) Area Committee.
